Dear Gloria,

from a legal perspective, this depends on where you come from (or actually on your citizenship) and to which host country you want to go to. Inside Europe (= no visa needed), becoming a "summer au pair" is an interesting alternative to a "normal" au pair job - you can find more details about summer au pairs in the FAQ.

According to your profile, you come from Mexico and want to go to Europe, right? In this case it's gonna be really difficult, as au pair visa are mostly granted for a minum stay of 6 months. You find all the detail regulations for all host countries in the country information.

That's the legal perspective, but also from a general perspective I'd say that one month is too short!

When you are new to a host country and family, you will need some days (basically one should plan the first week for this) to get acquainted with everything, become friends with the kids, get to know the rules, the work routines,... - so one parent will have to stay at home / with you during this time. The last days before you go home you will be busy with organizing everything for your trip back, so you would have a maximum of three weeks where you're of real help to the family. As summer holidays normally last at least 6 weeks, I don't think there are any families out there who look for an au pair who can effectively take care of the kids for only 3 weeks...

May I ask what's the reason, that you only want to become an au pair for one month?

Best regards,
Maria from the cAP team

Dear Gloria,

I believe you can become an Au Pair for only one month, only if in case you are already in the Host Country and the Host Family's Au Pair suddenly left, let's say at the end of 5th month (and they wanted someone to stay 6 months). In other cases I don't really see how it's beneficial for anyone (you'd have to pay a lot of money for the flight for example).

Kind regards,

Jovana (APSH)
