typically

This varies from family to family, but essentially on a weekday, everyone gets up, gets ready for the day, eats breakfast, and goes to school or work. After school or work, there may be after-school sports or classes. Later, everyone will come home to eat dinner (depending on parents' work schedules), and then do homework, spend time together, or go off and do things separately before bed. Sometimes, one parent will stay home with the kids or if both parents work late, a nanny, family member, or babysitter  or au pair will take care of them when they are home.

It is difficult to define "a typical American family"; The truth is, the United States is a very busy nation, and because of that, you will find that there is no such thing as a typical household. One will find plenty of single parents and married couples without children.

typical day in a family

A typical day in the U.S could go something like this:

1) Wake up at around 6 in the morning to a clock radio on one's favorite station.

2) Eat breakfast. Typically involving cereal, bacon and eggs, waffles, pancakes, or fruit.

3) Shower.

4) Get dressed.

5) Commute to work (average time: 1 hour).

6) Start work (usually 8 in the morning).

7) Hour long lunch break (usually at noon). Typically fast food.

8) Return to work until 5PM.

9) Work overtime an average of 1 hour.

10) Return home, commute (average time: 1 hour).

11) Take the rest of the family out to dinner. Typically a sit down restaurant or more fast food. If the woman cooks, she's probably not American born Lol

12) Come home.

12) Watch television.

13) Sleep.

If one cooks his or her own food, this saves money and would probably be healthier, but averaging about 12 hours of work per day is not out of the norm.

Kids go to school, maybe play a sport like baseball after school, but it's pretty much the same, except insert instances of playing video games in there somewhere.
