Minimum language skills are not defined to get an au pair visa.

Minimum language skills are not defined to get a working holiday visa, but to be able to work it is necessary to have Finnish or Swedish language skills.

There are no prerequisites regarding the school education or if the au pair needs to hold any special degrees.

According to the Finnish Immigration, if the au pair has a family, he/she may not bring them to Finland with him/her.

So to our knowledge, any mother and/or father living together with a child can become a host family.

The au pair cannot be related to the host family and not have worked as an au pair before, in Finland or in another country.

According to the Finnish Immigration, the au pair must append to his/her application:

• a free-form explanation on why he/she wishes to go to Finland to work as an au pair, learn the language, and learn to know the Finnish culture.
•  clarification of his/her interest in the Finnish culture, such as certificates of any studies in history or politics.

It is also necessary to present a health certificate that is less than 3 months old, with confirmation that the au pair does not have any of the most common serious contagious diseases.

• Not been granted a Working holiday permit in Finland before.
• The dependant of the applicant cannot travel with him.
• It is necessary to have a ticket for departure from Finland or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket
• The applicant must have sufficient funds to cover his living expenses while he / she is in Finland.
